Table Manners (Keeping The Beast Caged)

Published

Interesting title right? You know that feeling when you’re in public and you’re about to eat. Two things go through your mind at first, ‘should I act posh or just be myself as part of being unique, or should i act half posh half bush?’. I just want you to know this, no matter what you do, people are watching and just imagine a potential business partner, love interest or in law, seeing you eat like its your last day on earth. Especially during weddings! Oh my goodness. There are people who devour the chicken so hard that you’ll think they sharpened their teeth before coming for the occasion.

Oh, and don’t get me started on the pizza, sharwarma and burger eaters. Please, the horror is too much to bear. First off, if there is something you cannot eat properly in public without looking like a a basket where everything keeps falling out, please I beg of you, package it and take it home. I presume you are not in competition with anyone.

Anyway, for the sake of my sanity and that of the world at large, here’s a couple of tips to take note of when you’re eating, regardless of whether you’re in public or not.

Always close your mouth when eating; please this is very vital. We really don’t want to know what’s going on in your mouth while you’re chewing. Spare us from that horror. It’s uncultured and irritating so please close your mouth when chewing. When you’re done, then you can open your mouth and talk. Also, if you want to yawn, please close your mouth and don’t make it too obvious.

Soundless chewing; for the love of all things holy, when you’re eating, you are not required to sound like there’s an earthquake about to happen in your mouth. I mean, doesn’t it hurt? Please endeavour to eat slowly and soundlessly. You’re not in a race with anybody biko.

Take small bites; i can already imagine you smiling. You know that competition you have with yourself to see if you can fit five countries into your mouth? Yeah…Stop it. Just let it go. Your food won’t digest easily that way and you don’t want people thinking you were raised in the forest. *wink*

Not fighting for food; eyin eyan mayweather. You’re at a wedding you didn’t pay for or contribute to, yet you’re fighting as if the food was cultivated at the back of your house. Please have some chill. Wait your turn and then when it’s your turn; don’t start packing food that will last you till you die. Take a reasonable portion, not too much and not too small. It shows manners and respect for oneself.

Dealing with unfamiliar food; you have three options. Either you wait for someone to start eating and you copy the person or you ask how the food should be eaten or please just avoid the food. There are some ingredients your stomach may not be able to handle. So just avoid any embarrassment.

When you have something stuck in your teeth, please do not use your tongue to remove it. That’s embarrassing.  Just wait to remove it privately.

Despite being his debut album, the “Omo-Alhaji” crooner delivers a brilliant body of work which showcases two contrasting but somewhat similar personalities; YCee, the singer represented by ice and ZAHEER, the rapper represented by fire.

The mesmerizing 15-track body of work opens with the Adey produced ‘It’s Amazing’, captivates with ‘Wahala Dey’, inspires with ‘Bossing’ featuring Ms. Banks, and rocks with ‘Chocolata’ featuring Niniola. Featuring Nigerian music industry’s top acts like Davido, Phyno and Dapo Tuburna added to the excellence of the album.

Interestingly, the oldest song on the album was recorded in 2017 and the most recent, in October 2019. More interesting is the fact that the album was recorded in 5 different countries including Nigeria, Canada, USA, UK, and Uganda.

In celebration of this tremendous feat and indisputable input of hard work, another album listening party was held on Thursday, 6th of November, 2019 at the Artisan Lounge, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event was hosted by Sheye Banks and Manolo Spanky with sounds from Smallz The DJ.

Google announces Traffic tab in Maps

Published

By

Google, on the 6th of November 2019, launched a new Traffic  tab in Google Maps in Lagos, Nigeria. Announced in July at Google for Nigeria, the new Traffic tab offers users a snapshot of the information they care about most: traffic, weather, bus stop busyness, and current expected fare levels for Danfo.

The Traffic tab provides bus riders with information to help them find their most efficient route, both in travel time and transport costs. Until now, Google Maps users have only been able to access information for other forms of transportation including cars, 2-wheelers, BRT and ride hailing.

The Traffic tab includes a new directions experience, which features suggested routes which may combine walking, taking a Keke or okada, Danfo or BRT. Information about the estimated fare range, expected travel time and pictures of the stops along the route are now available to aid travellers on their trips around Lagos. Clicking on the pictures will allow users to get a 360 degree view on StreetView to help them better understand their location.

“What we have built for Lagos is a global first for Google Maps, and a step towards helping people in many other cities where transport can be informally organized as it is in Nigeria,” comments Jeff Albertson, Senior Product Manager, Google Maps.

Says Jeff: “We co-designed this product with people in Lagos. It was an engaging process to start from scratch, bring diverse teams of Googlers to Lagos, interview Lagosians and Local Guides, understand local needs, and then design something that weaves together all the many ways that people here move around.”.

The launch of this new Traffic tab follows the introduction, in July, of a dedicated travel mode in Google Maps to provide directions and navigation for motorcycles in Nigeria. Google also launched navigation guidance in a Nigerian voice for both motorcycle and car driving modes at the same time.

Google also recently published more panoramic imagery on Street View, to help make it easier to visually explore places in Nigeria, including imagery of Abuja, Benin City, Enugu and Ibadan – with almost 12 thousand kilometers of roads added.

“Nigeria is important to us. Beyond providing tools to help Nigerians use Maps, we also want to continue to bring more of Nigeria to the map. It’s a journey that we are happy to be on,” Jeff concludes
